The Village of Murs
1 minute walk. Murs is a lovely, unspoiled and exclusive
village in the heart of Provence. The village castle is 3
minutes away from Mas du Moulin and was built in the
11th century. It is an excellent example of a medieval
fortification, with its thick walls, donjon, round corner
towers and archer's slits. The village is surrounded by the
hills and forests of the Plateau de Vaucluse, and excellent
hiking trails abound in this area. Murs is commonly in the
Tour de France.
The Village of Gordes
5 minutes drive. The imposing château dominating the
village dates from the 10th century and today is a museum.
A promenade in the village offers, at a turning of one of
the winding road, magnificent views of the surrounding
countryside..
Abbey of Senanque
7 minutes drive. Sitting at the bottom of a deep valley,
Notre-Dame de Senanque remains one of the purest
examples of primitive Cistercian architecture. A community
of Cistercian monks still lives here. The entire 12th Century
building is open for visits.
Roussillon
5 minutes drive. This ocre-red village is a tourist
destination on the southern edge of the Plateau de
Vaucluse. Roussillon is a beautiful village, with its red
rocks, red stone buildings and red tile roofs.
The City of Avignon
40 minutes drive. Named the City of the Popes or Altera
Roma, Avignon retains the indelible mark of the Popes’ stay
in the city, which was for a while the capital of the
Medieval western world. Today, it is a prestigious cultural
capital with its world-renowned Theatre Festival
Aix en Provence
45 minutes drive. Aix was the capitol of Provence in
the 15th century, Wealthy merchants and local dignitaries
helped turn this city into the Florence of Provence as we
know it today. One can find all the beauty of the noble
Provence of the 17th and 18th centuries: handsome
houses of the upper class, private mansions, city squires
bursting with flowers, ancient fountains and shaded
narrow streets.
